Adirondacks for Family RVing

If you’re looking for a new place to park the RV and spend some time in the great outdoors, may we suggest the Adirondacks? Coming in at number 13 on the US News Travel list for the 17 best affordable US destinations, this beautiful destination is sure to capture your heart with just one look at the amazing scenery. A great perk of this destination is that a lot of the hiking trails are free and the campgrounds are very affordable. We understand the best time to visit is between the months of May and August, but if winter sports are what you’re looking for then November through April will be your best bet. Prepare for the cold though, as it can drop down to single digits!

There is certainly plenty to do here, but an all time favorite is the St. Regis Canoe Area. It’s free to get in, but you do have to rent a canoe or kayak. We hear this is a must for water and wildlife enthusiasts. You can tent camp here and you can also fish, but if you plan to fish, you will need to purchase a license. You can purchase one right at the State Environmental Conservation Department.

Another favorite area to visit is the nearby village Saranac Lake.  Just 15 minutes West of Lake Placid, you’ll find this little town filled with it’s own local diners and shops.  But what really sounds like a grand time is going to Fort Ticonderoga. According to Travel US News: Nicknamed the “Key to the Continent,” Fort Ticonderoga sits on Lake Champlain and was a strategic focal point during the Revolutionary War and the French and Indian War. After a careful restoration project in the 18th century, Fort Ticonderoga was reopened as a living museum featuring everything from barracks to kitchens to cannons.”  You’ll definitely want to visit this area attraction, but be sure to call ahead for times and ticket prices.  There’s plenty more to do in the Adirondacks such as the Six Nations Indian Museum, The Winter Olympic Museum, White Face Mountain, and more.
